It was time for a barbeque run.

25 miles down the highway, a stop at the park and a different perspective.
For years, Saba and I would head out in the car to places on the map. Names of places that looked interesting, I heard about on the news or in a travel book. It was great weekend adventures exploring Central Texas. We have been skipping those adventures the last few years. The barn project, work, IT and finances have gotten in the way recently. Yesterday we took a little road trip. We ran a few errands and headed down the highway in search of a park and some barbeque. We went to Lockhart TX, just a few miles down the road but it was a nice reminder of the adventures that we are going to be going on again. It was only a few hour trip yesterday, I didn’t feel up to a huge adventure with IT hanging on right now.
There is a new bridge in town that makes it easier to get to the park instead of taking that left turn across the highway. We spent an hour or so exploring and there were beautiful wildflowers growing in the shade under the trees. We finally had rain last week and Saba found a creek bed that just called out to him to lounge in. I tossed sticks to him; we ran around the park and had a whole lot of fun. We enjoyed the beautiful autumn afternoon.
We headed to the barbeque joint, a little further down the road when we were both satisfied with the park adventure. I snagged a plate of chicken, sausage and 3 different sides for $6.00. The place was crowded with folks buying up for the UT football game. I watched as pounds and pounds of meat, chicken, sausage and sides were wrapped up, charged up and headed out the door for the football watching parties. I gave Saba a treat when I got back to the car: a bit of sausage, a taste of chicken. Saba kept sniffing at the “to go box” I put in the car. There was too much on my plate and I took about half of it home for my race watching this afternoon.
I took my time driving home: I noticed a couple of signs for other parks along the drive that will become future adventure spots. We are starting small, but the plan is to get back to exploring, making time for fun and seeing small town Texas on the weekends.
