Bullets and Barbeque and Rock Stars.
03/15/2007

I hit the ground running Wednesday and didn’t stop until I got home.

I was walking into the building when I got word I was going to be busy all day long. My co-workers were dashing into the office, pagers beeping, phones ringing. There was a major incident, a shooting. I was picking up the phone, turning on the computer and putting my stuff in my desk all at the same time. I am glad I stopped for coffee on the way in. I was multi tasking all day long. My words for the day were NO, I am sorry.

No you can’t have information. No you can’t enter, no I can’t discuss anything with you. No comment, No, I am sorry they are not available right now. It was odd telling people that outrank me that they couldn’t do what they wanted. I handled it with professionalism, I did get a couple of funny looks, I did the best I could. One sneaky person got through.

I managed to get out by my normal time, things had calmed down 8 ½ hours later, and I dashed down to the barbeque with my Canadian friends. I was worried all day that I wasn’t going to be able to make the party. It was the one SXSW event I wanted to make. I took the bus, managed to get there a bit late but I ended up having a lot of fun. I ran into new folks, old friends, a couple of Rock Stars and just had a nice evening.

As I was heading out, some of the Canadian folks were trying to get back downtown. There were no cabs to be had, so I placed them at the bus stop to wait for a ride or try to catch a cab. I ended up walking home, up the hill and I have to say it was perfect. I was quite wired from the day, quite excited about the evening and I used the walk to burn off a lot of the lingering adrenalin.

I arrived home to find the gate open. My heart sank as I turned the corner. Saba had been left outside yesterday. I didn’t want to try to get home before barbeque to tend to him. Luckily I have the best dog in the world. I called his name and there he was, behind the fence, heading in my direction. I was so relieved; he hadn’t taken a walk without me. I would like to strangle who ever left the gate open, but I don’t quite know who it was. I guess it was one of the contractors, but no telling.

I am off work today, I had originally scheduled off for SXSW, but I will be calking and painting the barn. Hopefully this will be the last day of labor before I get the final inspection passed.
