I am in Love.
05/26/2003

I got a frantic call from P early yesterday morning. There are 2 things wrong with that, P is never frantic and he doesn’t wake up that early. He needed a big favor, he had someone special to pick up at the airport and he was going to be suck at work. There was no way to rearrange his schedule and I got chosen for the big mission. It was a late night run to the airport.

I called Cranky and asked if she would like to join me on the mission after the big girly party and she agreed. We had a nice gathering at the party, there were about 6 other girls there. Lots of naughty lotions and toys to look at and lots of girly talk. The funniest part of the evening was when the son of the hostess called into his mom, “ Mom, I need your credit card so I can purchase some erotic toys”. All the girls started laughing and he then said, “really Mom, I need your credit card so I can get some gas for the car.” I thought it was funny. I was watching the time, I didn’t want to be late for my mission. Cranky and I headed to the airport at the appointed time.

Well we arrived at the special area to find it locked down tight. A quick phone call to the hotline number and we were redirected to the correct place. I have to say I was very firm with the guy on the other end of the phone. I had called earlier in the day to get the special instructions and had spoken to him to confirm an hour earlier. He frantically dug through his material to find out where I was supposed to be. We headed over to the other area.

We couldn’t locate a representative from the airline at first then found a nice lady to help us out. She radioed down to the gate guys about our special bundle and let us know it was located and would be hand carried down shortly. It seemed to take forever!

The baggage guy came through the special door with this brown crate. He placed it on the ground for us, and as I got on the floor to open the special box, I heard a little whimper. Inside was the most adorable, big brown puppy just waking up. She was a little groggy and somewhat confused. I let her take her time getting out of her crate. She is P’s new baby, a 40 lb., 14 week old , brindled Mastiff. She had been flying all day to get to her new home. I picked her up and gave her some gooey baby talk as we headed on our way outside.

We headed to the doggie area along side of the airport. They have a special area next to baggage claim just for dogs. Saba and I use it when he fly’s or is with me to pick up guests. It has some nice grass, a water fountain, one of those double ones. The normal size for humans and one on the bottom for the dogs. She did her business and grabbed some water out of Saba’s portable water bowl. (I brought along Saba‘s travel bag, it is always packed with the goodies he needs when we head off on our adventures.) Cranky and I headed next to the car for the trip back to the house. I was worried about this little bundle of joy, she was awfully quiet on the ride home. I kept turning the light on to check on her. She was just curled up taking a nap and would look at us quizzically when we disturbed her.

When we pulled into the driveway, Saba was his waggey tailed self. He had no idea that we had a visitor. After undoing the gates and parking the car he figured out something was up. I opened the back door and was getting the baby out of the back seat when he hopped up in the car to explore what Mom had brought home. As I lifted the little bundle of joy out of the car and placed her on the ground, I realized the 14 week old is almost as big as Saba. They ended up playing in the back yard for a spell. I rounded up both of them and Cranky grabbed the crate and we headed into the house. She is one smart little puppy. One point at the water bowl and she was off and drinking.

The two of them spent a good two hours playing. The puppy found one of Saba’s toys and kept dragging it all over the house. Saba was a good sport, he played and played with her until she fell sound asleep. I was trying to wait up for P. but ended up heading to bed with Saba on top of the bed and the puppy on the floor beside the bed. At about 2 am, there was a knock on the door. P was off of work and coming to get his new baby girl. One last leg of her trip. She was heading home with her new daddy. P is a great daddy, she is one lucky puppy.

Awww. When people ask about family, I always say,"I have a dog." It sounds like you would understand that statement.
