Short track racing, toads in the water bowl.
05/25/2003

I headed down I-35 last night for the Saturday Night racing at Thundrehill Raceway. It is a short track 3/8 of a mile oval, paved and banked. They had Late Models, Street Stock and Trucks.

There was lots of bumping and banging going on. I didn’t pick up a program so I don’t know the drivers names but will next time I go. It is only a short trip down the road from here. I got to the track about 7 and watched racing until 10. Lots of fun. The truck race was a 50 lap main event. The 99 Truck banged into the 66 and the 66 took most of the ¼ panel with him. The panel was dragging from the back bumper for 5-10 laps when both drivers got the black flag and had to pit to remove the fiberglass. It was a shame, on the restart, they both got sent to the back and just couldn’t make up the position before the checkered flag flew. They were the strongest racers in the event. I ran into the beer guy at the track. He and I work lots of music festivals together and I was a little surprised to see him at the racetrack. He has the beer concession for the track. I had forgotten, but got reminded, the bike rally is scheduled for Saturday Night on Congress next week. Lots of pretty bikes and good looking bikers, think I will head downtown next weekend and do a little window shopping.

When I arrived home from the track, I noticed something different with Saba’s water bowl, it had a critter hanging out in it. It was a toad just hanging on the edge of the rim. He appeared to be content as can be. I know it was hot yesterday and the ground is dry. Saba likes to chase these little critters. He nosed up to him and made him jump. He ducked under the water and landed on the other side of the water bowl. Saba thought it was a great interactive toy. We headed into the casa and settled in for sleep.

I had spent the morning moving dirt and rocks in the back garden. The dirt from the barn project needed some attention. I now have a raised garden in the back of the lot. I don’t have anything planted yet but will in a week or two. The vegetables are starting to poke there little leaves out from the beds I planted last week. Should have plants in a week or two.
