Three Days off in a row!
05/27/2003

Wow did it feel great not to go into the office yesterday. I decided that there was nothing on my desk that needed immediate attention and had a lovely day with Saba and friends.

I got up early, Saba is an early riser, and phoned Mom. It was raining back east and the parade was canceled. It is a tradition to go down and watch all the boy scouts, girl scouts and soccer teams, bands and all that head down the main street for a parade. The church on the corner serves a pancake breakfast but Mom didn’t get to go this year it was rained out.

Saba and I headed for the lake fist thing. We went to a park just by the lake. There were a few other people that brought there dogs down to play in the water. Saba is not a swimmer but loves to just lounge in the water. There were lots or retrievers chasing toys thrown into the water by there owners and he played with the other dogs when they were on land. We headed over and I grabbed a bite to eat at the coffee shop that has a pouch overlooking the lake. It was just a nice way to spend the morning.

I futzed around the yard a little and then popped the tape in the VCR. I wanted to watch the Coca Cola 600. I had missed it because of the party Sunday night. Rain delays and weather were factors all race long. It go shortened by 124 laps. There were engine problem late in the race, that is not a shock, this is a long race for NASCAR. Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a break problem. He had locked them up in a spin to avoid hitting the wall. When he got to pit row, the brakes were on fire! They were trying to beat the pace car out and sent him back on the track. No luck, second lap they were still bright orange and in flames. The ended up pulling behind the wall to replace the brake cylinders, routers and all the brake parts. He ended up finishing 41st.

Tony Stewart had to pull off the track and head to the garage. His engine started to misfire. He headed straight to the hauler but the team backed it up into a stall and worked on it. Strange, they replaced the carburetor and a bunch of ignition parts when it turned out to be just a spark plug that had gone bad. I wonder how they missed that. I could have been changed on the pit row. He still finished the race so not all that bad.

Jimmy Johnson won the race due to the delay. His car was strong but I think Jimmy Spencer was going to give him a run for the money in the last 100. The seasoned drivers wait until the last 100 to push the cars. Matt Kenseth 2nd , Bobby Labonte 3rd, Jimmy Spencer 4th

I guess we will never know what would have happened but with a 3 hour delay expected to dry the track, I was OK with calling the race. I would not have sat through 3 hours of the dryers blowing.

Off to the office this morning, not sure on plans tonight.
