Talladega, Wedding/babby shower and the big box store
04/07/2003

Talladega Alabama, restrictor plate racing. There was a nasty crash on lap 5 and when the race restarted, 26 cars were on the track the rest of the cars were in the garage.

I missed the big wreck live, I was running about 5 minuets late. I walked into the house and the broadcasters was doing crash analysis and driver interviews as they exited the care center. What happened? Ryan Newman’s tire got cut, he slammed into the wall and took a whole lot of cars with him. I saw one of the drivers in the garage bagging on the sheet metal to straighten it out. Not all the drivers are just show pieces. There was a lot of bumping and banging in the last 25 laps. Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the race although there is still a debate about the yellow line. Did he drop below the yellow to pass? I don‘t think so I think he already passed that car.

I headed out with my gift bags and went to the Boulden Babes lunch/showers. We were celebrating the soon to arrive twins and a wedding. No, not the same person two different woman. It was the first for both types of celebrations. This is a group of neighborhood woman that get together every few months just to have some girl time. No boys allowed, just drinking, food and chit chat. I had to head out early, I had a journal meeting next.

I headed to down town Austin to the little city coffee house. I didn’t realize they were filming Spy Kids 3 yesterday. They had shut Congress Avenue down to vehicles and were clearing the streets of pedestrians when they were filming. They let the coffee shop stay open but we had to work around the shoots. Robert Rodriguez likes to film in Austin. I have been to a bunch of RR’s functions. I went to the openings of Spy Kids 1, and Spy Kids 2. I guess the premier of 3 will be in Austin also. I saw RR but didn’t get a chance to say hi, he was busy working. He is a nice guy, I have had quite a few dealings with him over the years. I got tired of writing his full name out, so in my world RR
= Robert Rodriguez.

I headed next to the big box electronics store. I am so disappointed with them. I bought my Handspring from them about a year ago and it broke yesterday. The touch screen is toast. I walked in and the returns department told me they would not cover it with the 2 year warrantee I had purchased. I was told to write a letter to Randy Fry to complain, they couldn’t help me. I went ahead and tried to purchase a new palm, they were out of Handsprings but guess what? The cradle doesn’t work with the lap top, it has the wrong plug. I will have to head back there tonight and return yesterdays purchase. What a pain, the store is so far north, it is almost in Georgetown.
