I met Lucinda Williams and saw Miles Zuniga last night
03/15/2003
I worked the Town Lake Stage and then headed to The Austin Music Hall for the second half of the night:
The Jayhawks 10:00 p.m.Minneapolis MN Pop/Rock
Lucinda Williams 11:00 p.m.Los Angeles CA Pop/Rock
Willie Nelson & Family 12:00 a.m.Pedernales TX Country/Bluegrass
Tracy from Canada and I have worked the festival together for a few years. She is just a blast to work with. She has the official Lucinda Williams pass so we were able to go in the back stage entrance and skip the lines. The Music Hall was at capacity and the line stretched up the block. I met Lucinda’s tour manager (HE is a hottie) and headed inside to catch the Jayhawks. I just love them, I have a tour poster on the wall in the study. The poster is from a long ago maybe 1993, from a show when only 15-20 people showed. The Jayhawks had to cancel a tour date and made it up on the way back from Europe there was hardly any press for that show, it felt like a private party.
After the Lucinda’s show we headed out to the tour bus and did a bunch of socializing. I ran into Miles Zuniga from Fastball, and had a nice little chat. We were talking about the industry and how the more money you make in it the less time you have for fun and the less time you have to hang out with your friends. Once you are touring there are drive time radio gigs that you just have to show up for. Mind you these are at 6-9 am after you just did a show till 3 am the night before. It sucks to be on the road, that’s not a part of the industry I want to deal with.
Tracy, Lucinda, Kari and I had a nice little girl chat about boys. Some things don’t change as you get famous, they just get a little more difficult. One of the problems I see is your social life becomes fodder for the press. That must really suck.
I headed out before the final plans were made to go out last night. It was 1 in the morning but I am sure the girls had a lot of fun. I have to work the Town Lake Stage again today:
