The Debutant Ball
02/23/2003

This years theme was The Wizard of OZ.

The new Palmer Events Center is gorgeous. It has a nice layout, good parking and looks to be easily adaptable for events. The place was all decked out for the party. There was a yellow brick road from the stage to the dance floor. The ruby slippers were on every table along with an arrangement of poppies.

The presentations were spectacular. The High School Girls in there red dresses, there escorts in black tuxes. The color combination was just stunning. Dorothy came out along with the good witch, (gee I can’t remember her name), then the Debutants were presented. The Deb I came to support looked beautiful in her white ball gown, she was very elegant in her curtsy to the crowd. Her escort was a handsome young man. Her jr. escort present her with roses afterwards the dramatic presentation. The Fathers met up with the daughters to do the first dance to kick off the ball. I didn’t get to see that but I am sure Dad did a great job.

The party was a who’s who of Austin society. Many famous names, many movers and shakers from all sorts of business. The ladies decked out in there party dresses and the men all in tuxes. It was a lovely scene. Party chider chatter all evening long. It is events like this that makes me appreciate the town I grew up in. This is not new to me, I have attended these functions for most of my adult life, I grew up in a society town.

There was a silent auction with hundreds of items to bid on and a raffle to win a Tahoe for $ 50.00. I though it would be a good bet. A 30K car for fifty dollars. I don’t think I won as no one called me last night. I told my friends as I left I would run back in my pajamas for it if I won.
