I got to the track and had a seat waiting.
09/22/2008
My usual spot: on the front stretch.
My friend from San Antonio saved me a spot since I was running late.
First up were the Thunder Stocks: Aaron Leddy, David Sevilla jr. and Bryon Reed bringing the field to the green flag for their 30 lap event. There were 4 cautions and Jason Stanly, James Lynch Jr. and Joey Tschoerner took the checkers.
The Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) headed out to the track for the DW 75 lap event after a kids bike race and some great prizes for the children. The big cars got the start engines command and they were off on an adventure. Jeff O’Neil, a new driver was in the 28 car usually driven by Leland Waddell.
Brian Moczygemba led the field followed by Jake Kruger, Joe Aramendia and Robert Barker.
The first caution was caused by a tire down on the 17 of Robert Barker and his heading to the pits. The race got back under way when the 14 of Jake Kruger and the 79 of Joe Aramendia tangled. I give Joe credit; Kruger was not showing respect for the seasoned driver and was sent to the back after the crash. Brian Moczygemba led the field to the green flag for the 3rd restart. The next caution was for a wayward air filter: not sure whose car it came off of, but the field had to be slowed to get the cover off the track. The next restart had Brian in front again with Heath Stewart and Bobby Teer Jr. trying to make up positions on the restart.
Jake Kruger Jumped the restart passing before the flag stand and then tangling with Jo Aramendia again. The field got back to racing with 16 laps left and there was a three car spin with the 6 of Jason Hollander, Cory Lovell and Mike Reininger. One more caution for the 05 of Cody Smith’s car and that left the field with 8 laps to go. The restart got waived off and the drives tried again The 1 car of Heath Stewart and the 50 of Brian Moczygemba tangled. The final dash to the checkers put the 50 of Moczygemba first, followed by the 7 of Chris Schild, the 14 of Jake Kruger, the 17 of Robert Baker then the 1 of Heath Stewart and the 79 of Joe Aramendia. Jeff O’Neil finished with the car intact and a 11th place finish.
The Grand Stocks were next up on the track with a field of 16 cars on the track. The filed was full of different level of cars and drivers. The leader James Laljer dropped from the front to the back rather quickly. The Layton Carroll had a single car spin the brought out the first caution. The Aramendia clan was stuck further back in the field but they were moving up lap by lap. The restart brought James Aramendia, to the green flag followed by the 46 car and the 53 of Cody Smith. The 53 of Smith then had an incident with the 46 and Cody was sent to the back of the field. There were 15 cars left after the third caution when the 58 of Layton Carroll blew up leaving oil on the track. The race then turned into a Green/White/Checkers timed race. There was a huge tangle between the 79 of Homer Pitner, the 50 of Carolyn Aramendia and the 65 of Floyd Reed ended the night up on the tires and the fence in turn 1. When I left the track, the results of the race were still being reviewed. The unofficial results were Joe Aramendia, Carolyn Aramendia the 46 car and the 07 of Richard Fitch.
Next on track for the final race of the night were the ASA A-Line Super Stocks. The 13 of Dale Casner was a dirt car brought in for the race. Rodney Rodriguez brought the field to the green flag followed by the 18 of Mickey McKim, the 01 of Terry Tschoerner and the 32 of Levi Krauss. The 40 lap event got started quite nicely then the 01 of Tschoerner and the 20 of Mark Mathias tangled and broadsided each other between turns 3 and 4. There was a lot of damage to both cars. The 99 of Cary Stapp had a strong lead the entire race and had a ¼ track lead most of the race. He finished first followed by the 32 of Levi Krauss and the 4 of Duane Toyne, the 18 of Mickey McKim and the 7 of Rodney Rodriguez.
