Rain, Robby Gordon in the 22 & Jeff Gordon plying drums
04/03/2008
I am at Texas Motor Speedway.
I headed out of town with the weather overcast in Austin and it just kept getting darker and stormier as I headed up the highway to the track. I was running a bit late, but the rain delayed the day at the track.
I was watching and wondering who was hitting the marks on the track and lapping quick times in practice. I heard the track announcer say Gordon was in the 22 Super Cuts car: It was my Gordon: Robby running in the Nationwide Series! I watched as Sam Hornish Jr. hit the turn 2 wall and scraped up the side and the back end was damaged. Then Casey Kahne totaled his car in the turn 4 wall and wrecked the car. Robby managed to place 5th in practice speeds.
I headed out of the track and down the road to do some shopping: there was a 4 hour break in the action and I took full advantage of it. I managed to get a pair of Tony Lama boots and a couple of shirts at the outlet spot. Yippee!
I headed back to the track to watch qualifying and the skies gave way. It started drizzling then it started raining and then it started to pour. I heard on the scanner that they were canceling qualifying and headed over to Fandango: TMS’s season ticket holder’s event. It featured Kyle Petty, Elliot Saddler, Kevin Harvick and Jeff Gordon. Apparently Elliot and Jeff play the video game rock star. They gave us a demonstration, they actually did very good. They all told stories and then Kyle sang us a new song he wrote after Bristol. It was great!
