17 Bands in 16 Hours.
03/19/2008
I left the house at Saturday by noon and kept going until 4:30 in the morning.
I started out around the corner with my new favorite band the Whipsaw’s from Alaska (Link:www.thewhipsaws.com, link at the right!) at Twangfest. It was the second time I saw the band and I like them even more. They played a set by themselves and then a set with Tim Easton. I headed next to a party on 6th Street with The Red Walls, then Worthless and Dick Prall. I headed next to Congress Ave and saw a couple of bands at the Yard Dog Party: Half Japanese and Chuck Prophet and a song by Diego's Umbrella.
I got a call from JB and headed back home for a change of cloths and shoes and met up with him for a show by Yael Naim., The song is called New Soul, commonly know as the Apple Airbook song. She has one heck of a voice, I am going to get her album, I was looking for a copy at the show, but there were no sales at that private party show.
I headed next to Antone’s for Ian McLagan, Del Castillio and Guy Forsyth. They are some of my favorite Austin area musicians. Then I headed to see Jason Collet from Toronto for a nice set. Then it was off to see Firewater from Brooklyn and the Waco Brothers from Chicago. I met up with TR after missing her all day and we headed to the Spin party and saw Dax Riggs and Soundtrack of Our Lives.
I took a nap and then headed out on Sunday to meet JB for breakfast. I dropped TR at Waterloo Records, had breakfast and dropped JB at the airport. If only…. I picked TR back up and we stopped at a friends house to see what to bring to the party later. We then headed over to the SXSW Softball game and Barbeque. I met up with a few people I hadn’t been able to catch all festival and then we went to a Babe’s lunch. By the time I got home I was exhausted, but had one more errand: Saba needed a run in the park desperately. Once I got him taken care of, I hit my house and bonded with my pillow.
I dropped TR at the airport Monday morning before work. I am emotionally satisfied, mentally stimulated but physically exhausted from my SXSW adventure this year. It’s a great feeling!
