NOT even a paw in the water!
08/25/2003

We were headed to Blanco state park but ended up at Canyon Lake instead. Saba and I decided to head out of town and have a little fun yesterday. Since the race was Saturday night, we had a whole day to spare. I skipped church and we got on the road very early. We had been to Blanco State park before and enjoyed it but when we got to the gate…

The gate keeper said we could go into the park but Saba couldn’t go in the water, not even a paw in the water. After an hour drive, that is NOT what I wanted to hear. I had packed the bathing suit, a blanket and lots of drinking water. I told them No Thanks, and jumped back in the car. I had seen a sign for Canyon Lake a few miles back and we turned around and headed to the lake. We tried 2 different entrances and got turned away. By the time we hit the 3rd one, I was about in tears. We pulled up, Saba was in the front seat and I asked the gate keeper “will you let us in?” He looked back at me and said “did you lose your ticket?’ No, I said, will you let the dog and I in? We have been turned back 3 times so far. NO,NO you guys can come in, but Saba has to stay on the leash, even in the water. By that time, that would work for me.

We spent a lazy morning/early afternoon playing in the lake. We romped up and down the shore, jumped in the water and just relaxed with a book (ok, Saba didn’t read, but I did.). It was a nice little get away from the everyday world. We will head back down to Canyon Lake some other weekend, forget Blanco, Canyon will be our spot to get away!

I spoke to the ranger today at the park. He appologized for his employee, apparently there is an area above the park where he directs dog owners that is not part of the park. He changed the rules due to dogs scratching when they are in the water. I got an appology but am still disapointed.
