Lights out in New York, Eastern Canada….

I got a call from Cranky yesterday afternoon, I was busy at work when she called to say that the east coast was out of power. The Niagara grid went down. Talked to brother who works in power plants and he had some theories. He didn’t think the “lightning bolt” theory was plausible. Me neither.
Once the power surges, the current gets all screwed up. The transmitters start generating power and the grid surges and shuts down like a domino. He thought it would take at least a day to get the power back up. Not many of the plants run on old fashioned coal, steam or hydro electric. Now all those little plants and the sub stations have to be manually put back on line. I talked to mom last night, she had no power and she was heading up to a friends house to have some ice tea and was going to sleep down stairs where it is a little cooler.
It has been an “interesting” few days at work. Lots of tempers flaring and Saba and I took the afternoon off to take a walk in the park. It was nice to get away from the day to day crap.
Mom has power back on as of this mornig so all is fine in her world.
