Greg Biffle the rookie won. Robby Gordon got wrecked, Dale Jr. and Michael W. had the wrong fuel strategy
07/06/2003

Restrictor plate racing at Daytona. I got a call from my friend J on his way back from the track just before the race. He went down for qualifying and happy hour but headed home to watch the race. J and I do a lot of race talking and he was convinced the DEI cars were going to be the dominant ones of the race. Close John, they just forgot the fuel strategy. A Roush team won, a Roush teammate Matt Kenseth, helped out and DEI ended up 7th and 11th. Dale Jarrett came in 10th.

Lap 74 was the wreck that took my new favorite driver, Robby Gordon out of contention. Kurt Bush slid on turn 2 in the middle of the track. Robby braked to avoid hitting him when he got bumped by Mike Wallace then ended up in the wall. NASCAR.com listed him as running in the unofficial results. How they got that car back together is a mystery to me. Keeping it on the track saved him a bunch or points, Robbie only lost 2 positions and is listed as 15th in the standings. Tough way to end a day, just circling for points.

Just saw that the hood of the # 31 car went into the grandstand during the last part of the race but no comment from Nascar, one fan injured.
