Robby Gordon, Double Duty and Bud pole qualifying yesterday
07/04/2003

Qualifying: Steve Park, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Sterling Marlin, Dale Jr., Michael Waltrip, Kenny Schrader, Jamie McMurray, Elliot Sadler and Jeremy Mayfield in the top 10, Robby Gordon comes in 18th. Looks like Daytona will be a fun filled race again.

I watched a little show last night on TV on Robby Gordon. It was a documentary of his tries to do both the Indy 500 and the NASCAR series or the Cart Series. It was called Robby Gordon, Double Duty. It had great video clips of the behind the seine action. It showed his travel back and forth to the tracks, Jets, helicopters, police escorts and such. One shot I thought was very telling. He was out in front of the Hilton Hotel, his police escort did not show up to take them to the track and he just wonders across the street to speak to the local street officer. He was nice about the mix up, asked if someone was on the way. When it became apparent it was not going to happen, he and his group just proceeded to the track. They did join up later with one of the other escort groups and got to run all the lights. I think the way he handled the situation tells you a lot about his personality. He didn’t get ruffled, he didn’t throw a star studded hissy fit. He just got himself to the track. By the way, I did notice he did all the driving in the video. I guess if you are a professional diver you don’t let anyone else drive.
