Spider bites and music news
06/11/2003

I ended up in the doctors office yesterday. I had this bite on my hip and it started to look icky. I noticed it had a brown center and started to panic. Doc says its not a brown recluse but it is something with venom. I started on antibiotics and hope to keep the secondary infection at bay.

I got a note from my new favorite band Del Castillo yesterday about the Steamboat closing show. They mentioned some members were out of town on vacation and didn’t get to play the last show. In the note they mentioned there management Lone Wolf (ZZ TOP) was looking for other places for them to play. Hum, I hadn’t heard the released news about signing with Lone Wolf but since it is in print, I guess it is official now. I have been hearing rumors for months that they were in negotiations. I guess they must have agreed on terms. I still need to confirm this. I think they will do well with Lone Wolf. I got to work with David during SXSW and he was very reasonable to work with. They are all seasoned professionals.

I have another friend that was in the studio on Monday. I got an update on that session yesterday. It seems things went very well. They have a few songs down and they are very excited about them. Tried a few others and they just didn’t have the magic. They will skip those for the album. They are heading back into the studio today for more work. Funny thing about studio time, all the guys get excited about it. They love being in the sessions and creative work tends to flow from the excitement. They are on a strict deadline this time, no major label funding this time, it’s an Indy project.

Indy seems to be the trend in music now. I can see how it helps the musicians in the long run. No huge advertising budgets/expenses, you don’t have to feed the corporate dog and you get to keep more of the profits. In Austin there is plenty of studio space available and you can round up some of the most talented musicians with just a quick phone call. Marketing and airplay are the key to these little projects. Once the songs hit a blip on the charts the national activity starts.

Yesterday at the office things went a little smoother. I still haven’t found a copier but am limping along with the one I have. I switched out phones and can at least take phone calls with out disconnecting everyone. Small steps but making progress.
