Park, pizza and JournalCon
That was the day yesterday, took Saba to the park and ran the baby down. Cranky joined us for the romp and we grabbed a pizza on the way home. I am trying to figure out the volunteer schedule for the conference and get that issue handled.
Plans for today: Police Academy and JournalCon stuff tonight.

M&M’s Shaken up - Elliot Sadler went up, over and around on lap 182.
My heart sank as I saw this disaster unfold. I was sure that he would be in trouble. Dale Jr. was trying to move down a spot on the track, Elliot moved to get out of the way and then clipped Kurt Bush in the front ¼ panel.

The attack of the crickets, yellow flags and early morning action.
I headed down to Thunderhill raceway for the 7th Annual Stock Car Spectacular. Between the cricket landings, there was a lot of racing. THR Street Stocks, Dwarf Cars, Asphalt Modifieds, Romco Super Late Models and TX Super Racing Series. 125 cars, lots of laps and an awfully long race last night, ( I should say this morning).

A new beau for my friend and MOM this morning!
I was watching 2 acquaintances of mine last night doing the hand holding, schmoozy dating thing and the green jealousy monster hopped on my shoulder for just a second. I hate when he does that, it is only a momentary thing but that monster, he can be downright mean. I am happy for these two, they seem to make a nice couple, things are working out, and that is great! But dam it, I want a boyfriend too.

Not a heck of a lot yesterday.
I did the work thing, did the yoga thing and headed to bed early. Today’s plan: work and go to a happy hour.

This economy stinks:
I talked with one of my favorite contractors yesterday, he is getting laid off at the end of the month 5 days from today. I am saddened by the news, I like B. and he brings a little light into my days. He likes racing and it is always fun to jab him abut his driver. I call him occasionally when the new is just to good to wait until I get home. I guess I hurt his feelings a little yesterday when I told him he was going to become a kept man! I could see the shoulders slouch down, a befuddled look on his face, and he said yah, right. Oops.

Ok so a few of you saw yesterdays entry, but I pulled it down.
I posted something a little racy and decided about mid morning I didn’t feel right having it up on the web. No harm no foul, just a little motivational thought about a certain driver we all know I root for. It idea came from the Sweet Potato Queens http://www.sweetpotatoqueens.com/.

ACL Day 3- I must be getting old
I kept watching the weather all day long. I woke up to full rain on Sunday morning and it started to let up as I headed out for church. I had planned on going down to the festival around 2:00 to see Lucinda Williams and some of the other bands.

Austin City Limits Festival day 1
He he, I like going to big shows and not working them, it has been a long time since I just got to hang out in the crowd, no radio in my ear, not bunches of people asking me for things. I started the day around 1:30 with Pauline Reess, the Steve Earl, Robert Earle Keen acoustic, Los lonely Boys, Martin Sexton, Del Castillo, Robert Earle Keen electric and ended with Dwight Yoakam.

A little rainbow, eggplant parmesan and singer songwriters.
I headed out after work with Saba, we went over to the leash free dog park and had a good romp. Saba sat on the shore as I hopped into the river, it was a refreshing little dip and I noticed part of a rainbow in the clouds. Strange, you could see it from the water but when I got back on shore, couldn’t see hardly any of it.

Internal Affairs and District Reps last night.
We had presentations by the IA folks that was really interesting. The majority of complaints are for rude behavior, I mean this is a great city if most folks are mad at the police because he/she said something they didn‘t like. A lot different than the east coast cities where I grew up. You were lucky if they didn’t take you to a back ally if you pissed them off. They have different classifications of offences, Class A would be excessive use of force, class B would be improper behavior, speeding/driving issues/rude behavior. Seemed a little silly to me, I don’t think I would bother with a complaint if the officer “threw” my drivers license back at me, but hey, you are dealing with the public.

Gosh what do you mean your out of cars?
I am glad I took a few minuets yesterday to reserve a car for my little trip to Phoenix at the end of October. I called 3 companies and they are fully booked for the NASCAR weekend. I managed to get a reservation, not the best deal but, I have a car reserved.

Racing, sleep, parties and stuff.
I managed to get out of the office on time on Friday. I headed out to a party with Cranky Friday night, went down to the short track on Saturday night, watched lots of TV coverage of the New Hampshire race Sunday.

The boss is away and the mice will play.
I managed to get out of the office for lunch three days in a row. It feels like I have been liberated. The boss is on vacation and I managed to get a few appointments scheduled in when he was away.

Dad’s coming for a visit, boss off on vacation and recruiting/training last night
Got an email from dad on Monday that he purchased a ticket to come visit in November, I am quite excited about this. He will be staying with me for a little over a week. I dropped the Boss off at the airport for his vacation and didn’t do the happy employee dance until I saw the flight leave from Dallas to Europe. I got a few calls from his friends to see if he got on the plane. I sounded like a lawyer. “I assume he got on, I have not heard from him. I will not confirm it until I get an email from Europe.”

I made the Robby Gordon mail:
“You mentioned on Trackside that you are bringing your trucks to Phoenix. Are you just bringing them to show or are you racing? If racing, when and where? I will be heading out for race weekend and didn't want to miss anything. --Devota
I'm not racing my sand buggies it but I'm not exactly showing them, either. Those are the sand rail cars or sand buggies like I had out in Las Vegas earlier this year. I'm going to run them in Phoenix to have some fun and show some people the cars' capabilities. I'm building and selling some dune buggies in a limited production from my shop in California. I've got some prospective buyers who want to see the buggies and I'm taking them to Phoenix for those guys to look at.

Short track & short tempers at Richmond Saturday Night.
Two of drivers Kevin Harvick and Ricky Rudd and there entire crews got called to the Big Red Truck after the race. That’s the NASCAR official domain of Mike Helton, president and John Darby, director. They hand out the warnings, they hand out the fines and penalties. 43 Drivers on a 0.75 mile oval going over 100 miles per hour, can you say tempers?

Brother found, Academy first night and a few work snafus.
Ok, so the new site job gave brother a cell phone but forgot to give him the codes to change the message. I did call brother, I did have the right number after all, he just couldn’t get the messages and it wasn’t his voice on the phone. That has all been taken care of now. He doesn’t like the new job at first glance, he figures it will be a 3 year project instead of a 2 year project. He was a bit disheartened last night on the phone.

Ok so not quite a 3 day weekend
I stayed home as planned on Friday night, I just needed to recharge my batteries. Went to yoga on Saturday and headed down to Thunderhill for short track Saturday night racing. Sunday ended up being a day of racing and rest.
