March 2004

Gosh it has been a quick week.
The cracked tooth is fixed, the back is fixed, an interview, a band and a cousin.

Los Lonely Boys, Dirty Dozen Brass band, Jr. Brown and Guy Forsyth on the big stage.
The beginning of the day was supposed to be easy; the “kid friendly” bands took the stage early in the day, from noon until 3:45. Thank goodness they were no problems at all. I had other issues to deal with. When I arrived at the stage there was a huge amount of equipment to shoot a DVD for Los Lonely Boys.

Kris Kristofferson, Joss Stone and Toots and the Maytals last night.
What a good crowd, it was packed by the time Joss got on stage. The day started out with a small crowd for Kris Kristofferson. It kept growing as he was on stage, folks were trying to park and get into the venue. It was Friday night traffic, SXSW traffic and the festival converging all at once.

I didn’t piss the Grammy folks off this year.
The show went off with out a hitch. El Tri was my favorite band of the evening, they play rock in espanol. It is part funk, part blues and part rock. If you don’t speak Spanish, they sound like a lot of other Austin bands, it is just the lyrics that are in Spanish.

The Austin Music Awards &Tim Dorsey was in town for a book signing last night
It was in the midst of the festival, he is one of my favorite authors and I just couldn’t skip his appearance. http://timdorsey.com/, I just love Surge’s adventures and look forward to the new books as they appear. I even lent Dad Florida Road Kill when he moved there.

Tuesday SXSW 04
Tuesday was a quiet day for me. I went into the office and then stopped down at the convention center. I caught the tail end of a panel and then was off home to get some stuff done. I was going to head to the Interactive Closing Party but I had a problem….

Monday I managed to get to the Web Entrepreneur’s panel
The fun part about this one was that I know most of the presenters. That made it a good time, but I was read to ring Pud’s neck for one of his comments.

SXSW 1st Sunday
Sunday morning I headed over to the office to get a bit of work done before I went down to the convention center. I know I don’t want to work weekends anymore but this was an exception to the new rule.

Sorry, I have been to a few parties lately and been bad about updating. Let’s see where to start
I went to the film party, you saw that, then the computer folks showed up they are a whole different group to socialize with. They do know how to party. I managed to make it to the interactive awards, one of my favorite things. I did get a few panels in on Saturday and Sunday.

SXSW festivals kicked off last night.
I headed down to the Film party at a local pool hall on 6th. I managed to snag a parking space right near the club, the parking God’s were smiling on me!

Mark Martin finishes in the top 5, Robby is 30th and Matt Kenseth takes the checkered flag.
It was a good day for the seasoned drivers at Las Vegas motor speedway but the young guns had a lot of trouble, except Kenseth. I don’t know what the heck happened to Robby’s car, he was in the 20th to 30th position all race long. Mark finished up in 5th so that was a good showing for him, Dale Jarrett came in just out of the top 10 with an 11th place finish and Dale Earnhardt Jr. had a lousy day. Jr. had a piece of crap car all day long, he ended up in the garage a few times but they could never get the setup correct. It became a race to just finish. I am sure he was a little bit embarrassed but he ended the day with an out of race.

3/1/04 Roswell New Mexico
Strange sites in the sky, home of the aliens and a NASCAR haulers on the way home. Saba and I headed off the plateau of Los Alamos after I grabbed breakfast with Brother. With the casino winnings in my pocket, I decided to make the trip to Roswell, it was on the way home sort of, it was a few hundred miles out of the way, I could re-route the trip home no problem I thought…..

Brother and I got up and headed out to church and breakfast as Saba stayed at the house. When we were done, we grabbed him up and headed on our next adventure.
