Wow, that was a long drive!
I left after work on Thursday night and got in for practice for the cup cars and qualifying for the Nationwide series. It took me a bit to find a way to spend my money on race tickets, I started at one box office, but that was only infield tickets: I headed out for the big site and got my seats for the weekend. It is so much easier to get a good seat when there is only one of you.
I headed past the midway, through all the excitement for the fans. The track isn’t like most of the one I have been to. You walk up and into the grandstands. I managed to find a nice high spot to watch the race from. The views are gorgeous nice big trees surround the area, there are lakes, river and then there is this speedway surrounded by campers. Lots and lots of campers.
It looks to me like the cars are going to be fast with the draft on Sunday. The new surface is nice and clean, their wasn’t a lot of talk about tires, there wasn’t any big theme overall with the teams that I heard from my little scanner. Yes dear, I also think your tractor’s sexy! PJ Jones was practicing Robby’s car yesterday, he ended up with a fast speed on the top of the scoring tower. I hope when Robby jumps in the car today he can nail a good starting slot. It doesn’t matter much since it will be a drafting race.
Tony Stewart got the pole for the nationwide series; he nailed it as I was leaving the track a bit early. I was a bit sleepy and weather was coming in during the qualifying runs so I headed back to the hotel. I got cleaned up, had a nice dinner and then I took a stroll by this lake just behind the hotel.
I am heading to the track shortly for the Cup qualifying and the Nationwide race. It’s a beautiful day so far and it looks like it will just get better.
