It was a great weekend:
03/02/2008

Two award banquets, one for work, and the other for local racing. An Endurance Race and the Cup race.

I got all dolled up Saturday afternoon for the annual awards banquet at work. It is once a year, a dress up affair and I got the invitation, not because I work there but because I used to volunteer there. I had some fun, got to meet the other people in my co-workers lives. It was fun to see everyone dressed up. Some of the units I work with all the time got awards. Some of the officers I have worked with got awards. I stopped and spoke to two of my council members about the park naming on their agenda for the next meeting. I got to let them know the Culture Club is planning a spring event, they seemed excited.

I headed home, got out of the heels and headed to the local race track for their annual banquet. Thunder hill Raceway combined a bunch of events to make a weekend out of it. An awards ceremony, a swap meet and the endurance race for a fun filled weekend. It was nice to watch as the drivers and the supporters of this track get recognition for the work they did last year.

I went down today and watched the endurance race, 28 cars started 9 finished and it was quite fun to watch. Only the red, black and green flags were used for the race. It kept the action moving along. The San Antonio folks faired well. There was the husband and wife team that came in first and second, Joe and Carolyn Aramendia. I was thinking it was going to be a long ride home when Joe passed Carolyn in the last 25 laps of the race. He walked over to her car at the end of the race and she gave him a kiss. So I guess they have their racing and relationships figured out by now.

I headed back home to see the last 150 laps of the Cup race. Robby didn’t look like he was having a great day, the car was in the back of the pack when the right front tire blew and he ended up hard into the wall. Race day over for him. Carl Edwards managed to take the checkered ahead of Jr. The last caution of the day was a nasty crash with Jeff Gordon, hard into the inside pit opening wall. OUCH that looked nasty and it could have been a whole lot worse.

Wednesday is penalty appeal day for Robby and I. He is appealing his fines and suspensions. I am appealing my work thing. He should get some satisfaction and some of his points back. Me, I just want to do my little job, not have any internal hassles and be treated fairly. We will see what happens with us both.
