Robby Gordon and Me

Saturday was the Busch race. It was so cold; we were bundled up in blankets for the race. It was so cold out, the ice in the cooler never melted. I haven’t seen that before, especially since I drive a black car and it is always warm. Matt Kenseth won the bush race.

Sunday morning it was up early and on the way to the track. I had a date: Robby was signing autographs at 9:30. I learned last fall the lines for his signings have gotten a lot longer. It was nice group of folks in line. I was anticipating this and a nice man took the photos for me. We look good together don’t we? I bought a coffee cup this time: I can take my drinks and think about Robby every morning on my way to work. (Yah, I know it is goofy, but a girl has to have a dream.)

I wasn’t sure what Robby was up to when he stayed out to try to lead a lap. He got 5 extra bonus points for that. Good thing there was trouble with the rollback loading up the wrecked race car. We ended up with a 24th place finish, but we moved up two spots in the points to 21st place.

Juan Pablo Montoya is not going to be on Tony Stewarts Christmas list that’s for sure. Tony wouldn’t give him a break and when he got aggressive in turn 4, he got loose and wrecked the number 20. Juan kept it off the wall and ended up with a 8th place finish and is running 13th in the points. Not bad for his rookie season.

Jr. got wrecked later in the race and ended up doing a bunch of laps in a wrecked 8 car until the engine expired. Kyle Busch was no where to be found when the 5 car was ready to head back out to the track. Can I say it caused a commotion in the stands? It was quite a moment: Jr. fans rooting for the 5 car. I was listening to PRN and the conspiracy theories are all over the place. I like Jr’s comments later on: “its old school”. He just got into the car to help his friends out and get a couple more laps for points. I am sure Teresa was having a time when she saw her money making driver in another ride. I think it might help with the contract negotiations, but I don’t think it was planned at all.

My voice is gone from yelling and cheering in the stands. I was glad the Jeff Burton won the race, he is the first repeat winner at Texas. Matt Kenseth ended up 2nd, Mark Martin 3rd, then Jeff Gordon 4th. It was a good race, it was lots of fun, we were all on our feet by the last 20 laps.
