Sunday morning, Fort Worth TX
10/17/2004
I am hanging out this morning just a few miles from TX Motor Speedway.
I headed up Friday morning and landed at the track for the practice and qualifying for Nascar Trucks and the Indy Racing league races. I met up with a bunch of my racing friends. I can be found in the same spot year after year.
Well I turned around late in the afternoon and saw a familiar face. Remember the nice beer guy from a few races ago? I turned around and said, “I thought you were dead. You never called and you never wrote”. It was good to see D. again, I got to return the favor he didn’t have the beer this time. It turned out that that it was Ds birthday and we did a bit of celebrating Friday night after we left the track.
Heilo Castrroneves managed to qualify at 215.996 for the IRL pole. That was one fast lap. I thought he had blown the line, he was so close to the bottom of the track I thought he was going to get into the grass. You should have heard the reaction from the crowd.
The truck race was terrific on Saturday; I really enjoyed watching the race. Todd Bodine managed to win the race after a terrific battle for the lead. My local favorite David Starr managed to place in 4th. Johnny Benson came in 2nd, Bobby Hamilton 3rd.
Other racing stuff:
Yes I agree with docking Jr. 25 points for swearing on TV.
I don’t know what the heck happened on Robby on Saturday nights Busch race. I heard at the track that he pulled the car off the track because they thought he had intentionally flat spotted his tires. I’ll wait for the race report. I was watching at the bar again, no sound.
Hear Michael Moore is trying to stir up trouble with a “documentary” on NASCAR. One of the fans had a nasty little message for him scrolled with a Sharpie on his shirt.
Heading out in a few to got to the track and look at stuff. I am going to head home tonight, Cranky was nice enough to watch Saba this weekend.
10/18 update: Shawn Griffith, it the filmmaker that is causing the trouble, not Michael Moore. Read a bit about his "protest" and don't know where the hell he is comming from. I have been a "minority" at the track for years using his thinking. As a woman that loves racing, I have been fully accepted and never discriminated against, qute the opposit. Sounds like he is just trying to get some attention to me. He will not be getting any from me.
