I was a super hero yesterday.
09/01/2004
I was the finder of lost children, rescuer of puppies and locator of cash.
I had a guy come up to my window that, shall we say was a little tough. He intimidated me a bit, but I handled him just like anyone else. He was looking for some money, it got seized during his last arrest and he had just gotten out of prison. He has quite a history, a few warnings on his case file but that wasn’t what I was looking for. Well, I did my search and find and found his case number. I had him call the evidence room and guess what! After all these years, they still had his cash. I sent him over to there location to go pick it up and the little thug was quite happy with me.
At the end of the evening, the officer F. and I were just chatting a bit about the day when a distraught man walked in the front door. He is Mexican man, about 50 and you could just see the worry in his eyes. Officer F doesn’t speak Spanish, the man didn’t speak English so I started to help out. He hadn’t heard for his son since Friday, he didn’t show up on Sunday and he missed work on Monday. He had a friend of his call the jail to see if he was there, but they told him they didn’t have him and he wanted to report his son as missing. I did a quick search for his son, he has a hyphenated last name so I tired it a few different ways. Well I located his son, he was arrested on Friday night. I didn’t quite know why yet but I was able to tell the dad that his son was Ok but in jail. It took a bit of team work to get the reports so I could read them, they were still in the transcription queue. It turned out that he was arrested in Friday night for DWI and had been moved to the big jail over the weekend. There was a great relief in the mans eyes, his son was in trouble but he was OK. I did miss my bus by staying and helping him out.
I managed to get the other bus home, I had to walk a few blocks, but it was a nice night. I got Saba settled and headed out to Yoga. I saw my regular bus driver stuck on the side of the road, I stopped to see if he was ok, he was, just a bit of mechanical trouble. I headed on my way when I see a lost Jack Russell. My heart sunk, he was crossing a busy street and of course he wasn’t watching the lights. I managed to open up my car door and get this little guy into the car with out getting hit. His name was Busco, he had a tag with a phone number on it so I pulled over and called. His owner was out trying to find him and I eventually met up with him and handed Busco back to his dad with a stern warning.
I was about ½ hour late for Yoga by the time I got into the parking lot. I figured with all my super hero actions today, I needed a break and headed into class. Annie, the instructor, knows I am sometimes a few minuets late due to work and is fine as long as I am quite. Well, I figured she would be OK with me real late. I managed to get a partial work out done and did major relaxing work. Ah, I felt much better after class.
This super hero called it a day and just headed home and relished in the good actions she did today.
