JournalCon, work and breakdowns.
10/03/2003

Ok so JournalCon is eating me alive right now. I am looking forward to getting it going. I seem to be spending lots of time and just pray it will be a great conference. I am having a difficult time at work, tenants are driving me nuts and I need a few days off. OH YES, TX Motor Speedway is on the calendar shortly, something to look forward to.

I was busy this morning at around 7:30 plugging away at the emails, doing some work for my site redesign when there is a knock at the door. It was the contractor, one of the tenants told he and the crew they could not start work until 8:00. She claims there is a city ordinance and she is calling the police.

I throw on some cloths, I was still in my pajamas, and head over to her door. I banged rather loudly, I was a bit pissed off. What is your problem? I enquire. She responds that she just wants some quite time, she doesn’t think she should be disturbed before 8:00 a.m. She repeats the threat of the city ordinance and calling the cops. I tell her sternly, if you can find such and ordinance, pleas feel free to send me a copy. Go ahead and call the cops, they guys are starting to work. There is a crew of 6 guys standing around just because she doesn’t want to be disturbed. She tells me that she is upset when they are banging on her walls as she takes a shower. Poor child, its not like they were in her apartment, they were tearing the old siding off to replace it with new stuff. The guys wait until I am at work to do any inside work, they are installing new windows. Yah, its noisy, yah, it’s a pain but it is work that has to be done. She was sent a letter the prior week explaining the work would be done. The apartments have been in the process of being remodeled since June. What did she think, we would adjust the work schedule to fit her whim?

I think it was her little passive aggressive hissey fit that annoyed me most. . We are not renewing her lease due to other problems she has caused. I kicked her roommates pile of stuff out of the way to be able to get to the window yesterday. Gack, how can people live that way? Not just a few items on the floor, you couldn’t even see the floor. It smells like dead fish in there and I sneeze every time I walk in or out of the place. Did I mention she has this poor turtle that is in an aquarium that appears never have been cleaned? Poor guy, he needs to be relocated.

After I got the guys working again, I headed home to hop in the shower and finish up the email I was typing, I managed to get the email done when there is a LARGE truck that stops on my front yard. It is the city easement, but it is still the front yard. Saba starts barking the big dog bark. I go to the door and they are putting up “Road Closed” signs in the front yard. What is this I wonder. I stumble back to the computer, thought I hit send and hop into the shower. I manage to find out later, they are shutting the street down for construction work over the weekend. Thanks for sharing!

This is all before 9:15, my usual time to head over to the office.

Dinner toning with Cranky, she was having a bad day. Somehow she managed to have a worse day the I did?!
