Dad’s coming for a visit, boss off on vacation and recruiting/training last night

Got an email from dad on Monday that he purchased a ticket to come visit in November, I am quite excited about this. He will be staying with me for a little over a week. I dropped the Boss off at the airport for his vacation and didn’t do the happy employee dance until I saw the flight leave from Dallas to Europe. I got a few calls from his friends to see if he got on the plane. I sounded like a lawyer. “I assume he got on, I have not heard from him. I will not confirm it until I get an email from Europe.”
See the Boss has tired to make this trip 3 times. First was September 11th, 2001. We all know what happened then, he was on the tarmac in Austin when the flights were grounded. Last year his daughter got into a car accident just before they were scheduled to leave. We were all hoping that the third time would be an actual trip.
I had citizens police academy class last nigh. I am glad my thought on the first night were correct. The class breezed right along. It was interesting to find out all the hoops the recruits have to go through. We got some inside information on the screening process, the indicators for not hiring and a good over view of the whole process. We then followed that session up with training. I have a list of the physical requirements. One of the class members is going to be organizing a “field trip” to the training academy for a Saturday. I might just go along to see how I would fair. They showed a video of one of the prior classes and I did recognize a few faces. It gave me a little more respect for the amount of stuff the future officers have to go through.
